If you try to visit a site that is known to have a phishing scheme or malware downloads, this program displays a warning message letting you know it’s dangerous to continue. And if there is a virus download, Kaspersky captures the threat and either securely quarantines or completely scrubs it from your computer. There were a few downloads that snuck by this software and were found later using the virus scanner. Most of the missed threats were websites that Kaspersky didn’t fully block us from accessing.
Something we were impressed with is several websites we tried to access couldn’t be reached because the server was down, the account was suspended or there was a 404 error. Some of these still had an automatic download attached to them that began to open, but Kaspersky still stopped them. Several antivirus programs didn’t catch these hidden threats, so watching Kaspersky working so well really boosted our confidence in its programs.
Both Kaspersky Internet Security and Total Security help keep your information secure and minimizing the risk of identity theft by giving you a personal firewall that works in tandem with the security in your Windows or Mac operating system. And this firewall works on your cell phones and tablets, too, regardless of the operating platform.
This software also has fantastic parental controls that are so easy to enable. You can click preset internet filter categories, like pornography or violence, and it will block any website that falls under those categories. You can also set time limits for when your children can have access to the internet. Kaspersky has a keyword list where you can input words or phrases that you want your child to be prohibited from both seeing and typing. This is a good way to keep track of cyberbullies and predators who may use dangerous words like “home alone” or “don’t tell.” And since the security program is compatible with so many operating systems, you can use these features on your kids’ cell phones and tablets.
We do like the clean dashboard of both Kaspersky Internet Security and Total Security. All of Kaspersky’s software is easy to download, install and navigate. All the tools and functions you need are clearly placed on the dashboard’s landing page so you don’t have to go on a treasure hunt looking for the one you need.
