Verdict / Living up to its name, Driver Easy is easy to use, plus it’s full of features and can automatically update your computer’s drivers.
Like all the programs we reviewed, Driver Easy was unable to detect all 149 of the outdated drivers on our test computer. In fact, it found only 73 of them – less than half. However, only three applications found more. Our best performer, Driver Booster, found only 91 out-of-date drivers. On a positive note, Driver Easy provides good information, including version details and sources.
This software is delightfully easy to use and has a modern, colorful interface, which is why we recommend it to users of any skill level. While most other driver programs either have a one-click update button or individual update buttons for each driver, Driver Easy gives you both options. As such, you have more control over updating your drivers. The software is further bolstered by its exclusion and uninstall options, which let you choose specific drivers to update or delete. The built-in scheduling feature lets you tell the application when to run automatic scans.
In addition to not detecting quite as many drivers as other programs, the software doesn’t guarantee drivers come from original equipment manufacturer (OEM) sources. A driver update from a non-OEM source may be okay, but it also may not work properly or at all. However, Driver Easy’s robust backup and restore feature provides a workaround for this, as it lets you save your drivers from an earlier point in time and restore them to that state if an update goes wrong. The process is easy and shouldn’t take long on most computers.
There are many ways to reach Driver Easy’s technical support team – more ways than most other programs we reviewed offer, in fact. If you want to speak directly with a trained customer service representative, you can do so via email. The company’s website also has both a knowledgebase and a FAQs section that are full of information. Both are handy resources whether you want to troubleshoot an issue without assistance from a technical support rep or you simply want to learn more about the software. However, the company does not offer customer support over the phone.
The software is compatible with all recent versions of Windows, from XP forward. It is not compatible with Mac OS or Linux.
Driver Easy quickly scans your computer’s drivers and primes them for updates. This driver updater software offers a one-click fix as well as scheduling options, and it even gives you the choice to delete an unneeded driver or wait to update it later. Though Driver Easy didn’t have the most thorough driver scan, it provides lots of details about individual drivers and takes care of all of the heavy lifting, making it a great choice.
